WHO IS DOMINIQUE COGNÉE ?
Dominique Cognée is a photographer from Montpellier, a city
in the south of France. Poised on the shores of the Mediterranean
and first famous for its university, Montpellier is now internationally
recognized for its rich cultural life and artistic diversity.
Dominique graduated from the National School
of Photography, Ecole de Photo du C.D.P.H, in 1989. For the
past 14 years he has been working freelance in many different
areas of photography, with an emphasis on black and white imagery.
He brings his training at the Beaux Arts (French National
Art School) to his photography and uses his experience to ad
new dimensions to his work.
Since 1994, Dominique combined his love for
horses with his skill in photography and has been concentrating
on Equine Portraiture. He has shown an inherent ability
for capturing the beauty and the spirit of these noble subjects.
HIS PHOTOGRAPHY:
Dominique’s work typifies the Arles School
of Photography. A result of years of studies in his native France,
his documentary approach utilizes natural lighting and settings
to bring out the special beauty of his subject. As Dominique
says “ There is nothing more magical and unique about this natural
light around us, we just have to learn how to capture it, to
use it to bring emotion to our images.”
Dominique is able to adapt his artistic vision
to meet his client’s needs. He specializes in capturing the
particular beauty of each horse or person, the essence as well
as the image. Thus his portraits are well suited for magazine
advertisements, show brochures, personal portraits or any visual
media.
His work has been published worldwide in
the Arabian Horse World magazine, The Times, Cheval Arabe France,
Endurance News… to name only a few.
Since the spring season 2003, Dominique has
been promoting his services overseas, to the European market
doing some work with horse breeders and shows in France, Belgium
and Germany. Very recently he started working on
painting some of his images.
